MANAGEMENT
TRAINING PROGRAMME
SELF DEVELOPMENT AND GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS:
INSIGHTS FROM THE INDIAN WISDOM TRADITIONS
(1-5
December, 2006. 6.30 to 8.00 PM.)
This
program is meant for middle and senior level managers who are in decision-making
positions and go through ethical conflicts and mental stress. Their
problems are accentuated because of global competition. While competence
is a hard skill that is acquired from school and collage education,
competitiveness is a soft skill that is gained by mastering emotions.
The Indian wisdom tradition has a rich repertoire of teachings meant
for knowing and mastering the mind. The focus will be on the individual
and the body, mind, soul connections. Healthy, balanced and mature individuals
make productive and effective teams that can compete globally and create
great companies. The topics discussed in this five-day program will
be:
(1) Re-engineering the personality
We have heard about re-engineering corporations. But corporations are
made up of people and unless the individuals constituting the corporation
are re-engineered no lasting success will be achieved. This presentation
will discuss six psychic tools to re-engineer and reinvent the individual,
to make him dynamically creative and integrated and bring a happy individual
to the work place. They are a paradigm shift from "I am a creature
attitude to I am the creator attitude", inside out personality
growth, personality development through challenge and response, detached
engegement in work, taking responsiblity for ones choices and following
ones bliss.
(2) The Yajna mindset for a productive work culture:
India is one of the least productive economies in the world and our
present work culture is dubbed as 'shirk culture'. But at the same time
the fact of the matter is that till the 17-century India contributed
27 percent of the world economy. The yajna work culture that made India
rich and prosperous was forgotten during the long night of foreign rule.
It is time for us to rediscover that mindset as India aspires to become
a super power. It is the belief system and values of the people that
influence work culture. The yajna metaphor is central to the Indian
psyche. Yajna means sacrifice to Gods, to engender prosperity. Yajna
also means selfless collective work and sharing the fruits of such work.
This presentation will show that the yajna metaphor is a powerful tool
in creating a most productive work culture in India.
(3) Guna theory for personality analysis, recruitment, training,
placement, evaluation, promotion, reward and punishment:
Human resource is the most critical factor in the success of a company.
Modern psychology is a poor guide in the selection, training and placement
of personnel and work force. The theory of Gunas is a powerful scientific
tool and valuable guide in assessing personality types and molding people
for job requirements. This presentation will show how Guna theory can
be applied in understanding human behaviour in work situations.
(4) Inspiring Leadership models from Indian tradition:
This will be a study of leadership models from Indian Epics -- Rama,
Krishna, Hanuman, Narada, Draupadi, and modern India -- Mahatma Gandhi.
The presentation will focus on their style of leadership in goal setting,
team building, conflict resolution, decision making, communication,
motivation, reward and punishment and crisis management. Leadership
is culture specific. A Mahatma Gandhi will be a misfit in Germany and
Hitler in India. Indian business leaders have to be versed in the Indian
ethos to understand and inspire their work force. Leadership is very
critical in corporate culture and business success. A study of Chanakya's
ten sutras on leadership is included.
(5) Cross-cultural Values for Global Managers:
Nations, communities, corporations and even families are becoming multi-cultural.
Successful companies like Microsoft and nations like America draw talents
from all over the world. Talents are sparsely distributed and highly
mobile. Hence successful managers will require skills to lead multicultural
teams with members speaking different languages, professing different
religions and worldviews and coming from different countries. This presentation
gives a matrix of values taken from traditions all over the world. A
valuable and indispensable tool kit for modern managers.
The ten Vedic principles for Modern Management will also be discussed.
